executive chef - gerardo naranjo
Executive Chef Gerardo Naranjo, originally from the Michoacán region of Mexico, started working in the restaurant industry when he was 18 years old. He started as a dishwasher and his work ethic, persistence, and ability to learn quickly allowed him to climb the kitchen ladder. Chef Naranjo enjoyed the pressure and quick pace of the kitchen and he thrived under the constant challenges that were presented each day.
California Café in Palo Alto, was Chef Naranjo’s second restaurant job where he worked as a line cook. It was here that Chef Naranjo was inspired by Chef Stout’s creativity and passion for the art of cooking and where he learned what “real cooking is”. Chef Naranjo also credits Chef Michael Dotson of Evvia, Palo Alto and Chef Salvatore Calissi, from Dio Dekka as culinary inspirations. Naranjo has attended the Culinary Arts Program at O.I.C.W. in Palo Alto in addition to holding the Sous Chef title at Gordon Biersch Brewery, Piatti, Dio Dekka and California Café.
